Hlanganisa Community Fund for Social and Gender Justice is an intermediary grant maker that channels funding to the grassroots level. Our work is aimed at contributing towards achieving social justice through enhancing the capacity of community-based organisations, promoting human rights and equity, and fostering agency and cohesion in communities. We focus on access to justice, gender justice and women’s leadership development and climate change and energy justice.

Job Description

We are currently looking for an advocacy manager to lead and direct our strategic advocacy initiatives to influence public policy, raise awareness and mobilise support to promote social change and advance Hlanganisa’s mission within its four focal areas.

Qualifications and Requirements

We’d love to hear from you if you have …

  • A bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, law, or a related field.
  • A South African passport or are in possession of a legitimate South African work visa
  • Excellent communication
  • Writing
  • Research skills
  • Strong knowledge of public policy in Hlanganisa’s thematic focal areas
  • Understanding of legal concepts
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Work in collaborative, fast paced environment
  • Expertise in policy analysis and community mobilisation
  • Committed to fostering social justice and empowering stakeholders through innovative advocacy strategies and collaborative efforts

You probably have

  • At least 5 years’ work experience in advocacy in a non-profit environment with knowledge of at least 2 of the 4 thematic focal areas of Hlanganisa’s work
  • Proven experience in community engagement, coalition building and mobilising resources to effectuate meaningful change
